Only The Lonely

1991

Chris Columbus
Director

Lonely Chicago cop Candy falls in love with the daughter of a funeral director (Sheedy) and conducts an affair with her despite the disaproval of his Irish mother, whom he lives with. More of a romantic drama than it is a comedy, despite some humourous moments.
Another collaboration between producer John Hughes and director Chris Columbus (they worked together the year previously on Home Alone (1990) - which also starred Macaulay Culkin and featured John Candy).

INTERESTING FACT: Actress Maureen O'Hara was tempted out of retirement to make this picture; it was her final theatrical screen appearance.
